To a packed room of local business people including representatives from Business Link, I delivered the first of my seminars on the subject of “Using Twitter for Business” at Action for Business’ offices in Bradford yesterday afternoon.
Run by Bradford Grid the event was aimed at small business owners who were inquisitive about the micro-blogging phenomenon that has exploded on the social networking website scene within the last 12 months; what it is and how it can be used as a beneficial tool for their own businesses.
So on one of the hottest and muggiest days of the year so far, I went through Twitter basics and a live web demonstration of some key Twitter management tools.
The whole session was aimed at new people to the service (“newbies”) with the intention of turning them into fully fledged members of the Twitter community (Tweeple) by covering Twitter basics with an overview of the tools and techniques that would get them confidently tweeting in no time at all.
Vicky Endogan, owner of Solutions Bookkeeping in Huddersfield remarked of the event afterwards;
“Before Jaimie’s Twitter introductory session, I had an account, but had never used it and had no idea how to start. Today I’m Twittering away, I have people following me and am using my Tweetdeck! The session was easy to follow, informal and with plenty of breaks to ask questions. I now have a new way to network and market my business.”
Similarly another attendee of yesterday’s session, Siobhan Hymes of graphic design agency Inch Punch Design commented;
“Jaimie’s workshop answered the questions I had regarding Twitter and how it can help my business. I have gained a greater understanding of the Twitter applications that are out there and now have the confidence to trial them out for myself .”
As can be seen, initial feedback to date has rendered the seminar a success despite the sauna like conditions in the room which included only a fan and open windows for comfort. Well done everyone and thanks for attending.

My next workshop on Twitter which will look at more advanced techniques, will be a “bring your laptop” type of interactive event. Watch this space for dates.
